I typed that into google and definitely did not learn much about chickens!
We incubated a batch of eggs and only ended up with a single chick, an nice little bantam. How do we deal with this? He's about a month old now and has a warm spot next to the run for the rest of the birds. Obviously...
We have 16 hens in 300ft^2. They are a mix of 6 month old and 18 month olds. We were typically getting about 8 to 10 eggs a day at the beginning of the summer and now it is more like 3 to 5. I would have expected things to be improving since the younger chicks should be coming 'on line'...
We have 3 roosters and they have reached a mutual agreement that they won't kill each other. The little guys just stays as far away from the big one as he can. The middle sized one is very passive so there hasn't really been a problem.
We have a flock of 11 chickens and 3 roosters. We've had the flock for about 18 months. Just recently one of the chickens started brooding. We thought it might be interesting to let the kids see a natural hatch so we let it go on. I've noticed that we have very few eggs being laid. Being...
Just to follow up "Blackberry" is alive and kicking. Not big enough to join the rest of the flock but he's flying around a bit and stronger than his hatch-mate. Thanks for all your help!
Yet another question. Only one (of three) hatched and (s)he's doing well but I wonder if there are issues having a single chick. We have 6 other chicks that are about 6 weeks old as well as the rest of the flock. When can the single chick be integrated with the older chicks?
I broke away a tiny bit and he sprung most of the way out. He doesn't look too healthy. The shell seems to be pretty stuck to him everywhere. He is cheeping and kicking like mad still....
So I have read ALL of the posts about not helping and am prepared not to... but this case doesn't seem to match what I've read.
This chick has fully pipped, I can see him breathing and he is peeping like crazy. About half the shell is broken away, but where it is broken there is a crusty...
