We have EE's and a couple of other various breeds but the EE's are our favorite we lost a couple this winter, 1 to an OWL and another to I think just old age.
Our eggs have been average size but just recently we had an egg that was just over 3.5 oz I have not cracked it open yet, I'm guessing at...
hope to pictures soon, we have a Golden Laced Cochin and she is the friendliest of all of our crew. She will untie your shoes if you are not paying attentin to her and jump up on your lap. You will have sooo much fun with your new babies.
We live in Eastern Washington and we have some pretty cold night so we insulated our coop with R-11 and covered with plywood. The coop is an old 1910's chicken house and the siding was not air tight. We also covered up a couple of the windows that are by the roost with plastic to help decrease...
This is Belle our GL Cochin Bantam, she is the friendliest chicken. She however will demand attention like jumping on your back while you bend over and unties shoes she loves to be the favorite chicken.
Our EE's did the same thing, some sing before and some after or if they just want us to bring them a treat. A few of them sang the egg song a couple days before laying.
Our hardward cloth is outward about 12 inches and down about 3 inches, so far it has worked good. One of our dogs has tried to dig but stopped as soon as she hit the wire. We also have pavers around the gate to hopefully prevent any unwanted vistors from digging under the gate.
