Mine is a high as it is so I can go inside of it. I disnt want to have to squat when i went in to clean or refull food and water containers. It did seem empty because of the height so I added a few doves that needed a home. They ccame from a cage that didn't give them room to fly, so they seem...
This pic shows the door and how it is raised off the ground a bit. The pic also shows the two most fearsome preditors within miles (Someone asked me about bears in am earlier post). I have a few more pics of my aviary. If you want to see them scroll up to my earlier post.
I think that an "airlock" would be an awesome idea. I built my aviary from plans that are only found within my head. This means that after building it I realized all kinds of things that I could have done different.
I have 4 white doves in my aviary that I have to make sure to look out for...
This is what I started with before I became an addict
It wasn't long until I was on a building frenzy
I go in there and change things from time to time simply for my own aesthetic pleasure. The Quail seem to love it, and the 4 doves are getting along fine in there it seems.
I have 4 doves in a large pen with some quail. The quail lay all the time but I only get one or two dove eggs a month. I thought about boiling the dove eggs along with the quail eggs just to see if they were any good. After reading this, I am going to give it a shot and see what's what.
I have the same issue with a rabbit that I rescued. A buddy of mine knows I have a soft heart for critters so he gave me a male gray fox rabbit that wasn't interested in females. We laugh about him being gay, but he gets along just fine with my quail and doves. I don't think he is interested in...
When I was in the army on my first deployment to Kurdistan the drinking water that was trucked in to us had to be treated. We added bleach to it and drank it for months. We would add a minimum of one bleach bottle cap full five gallons. Our water specialist swore by it, and we appear to all have...
Ok. Now I totally get what you mean. It would be a great idea if I go on vacation or something. I do actually plan on taking one of those some day. Both the feeder and waterer that I use now are small, but I would need something like this if I am not going to be able to check on them daily. I...
From the pic I have in my head of what you are saying, it should work. As long as all the water doesn't drain out as soon as it is hooked up. The bucket will have to have an air tight lid on it too. If the hose is below the full line of the tray, air shouldn't be able to enter into the hose...
Sians,
I have a small "smart water" bottle in my soda bottle waterer. It is working fine. With 10 birds in the pen, I only have to fill it every three days. Here is a pic of my set up. Doves on top, Quail on bottom. It works well so far.
