Hi,
I have a large walk-in coop and I use pine shavings. Below that I put linoleum tile to make it waterproof (preventing my wood from rotting) and to make it really easy to change out.
Normally takes me like 10 mins to do a full change out.

It's probably best to put fake eggs or golfballs in the laying box, that way the eggs you put in there aren't at risk of being stood on, especially if you have eggs you put to the side for hatching.
I've heard placing a curtain in front of the laying box or just finding a way to make it really...
Hi, I'm a newbie too
And to answer your question, not necessarily. It's normal for egg color to vary a bit. It is at the beginning of their cycle that the eggs will be the darkest or most concentrated color, and as time goes on it will lighten.
You'd be looking to make sure they're clear. If there is a blood spot, veins, large dark spot, a ring, or really anything you wouldn't want to find in an egg I'd toss it or use it in compost.
Hi, so glad to hear you are getting chickens. Definitely a step in the right direction
Depending on how many chickens you are getting you'll need different amounts of space in the coop. The minimum (and I totally mean the bare minimum) is about 2-3 square feet per chicken inside your run. But...
Could be an easter egger. They come in all different colors. Maybe a creme legbar? Those are normally a bit darker, though and have that "eyeliner." I'll keep an eye out and get back to you if I find anything.
Hi, sorry nobody has responded.
That sure does look strange. Have you checked her for mites? They're super tiny and sometimes hard to see. Like black pepper.
You said she's been broody. From my research, people say missing feathers in that area is a classic sign of broodiness.
Best of luck.
It looks like she's been picked on by your other birds. Doesn't look like disease to me. Good thinking for the triple antibiotic & hopefully she'll make a full recovery
Hi @Amiga ,
I blended up a nice duck "smoothie", if you will, with spinach, egg, tomato, garlic, carrot, etc. I gave it to her and saw her eat some. There should be lots of nutrients in there.
The vet appointment is Monday. Will update as soon as I know what's going on.
Hi @Amiga ,
I will give her more food immediately. She always has food available to her, i've never actually seen her with an empty dish. I have not been giving her vitamins. what do you suggest? The only other drake I had has the same issue as her and my dad culled him. I don't want him to...
