Haven't had that happen yet but I did nearly lose a pullet to my own dog yesterday. She needed to play outside something bad which is usually done only under my supervision in the back yard but I got distracted helping my kids with their math (we homeschool) and she got hold of a 9wk old white...
Well it went good last night. Betty was awake from the peeping but as soon as i put those chicks in she started tucking them in! One pecked her straight in the eye and she didn't even care lol. They are all running around jumping on mom and eating and drinking this morning.
:)
I don't see any blood or wounds just really thick goop over its head. I tried again and a little yellow showed up on the white washcloth. So a little came off but not much. I'll keep trying periodically through the day. It's eye looks a little better now and otherwise there is nothing wrong with...
Well it seems they did make it to the PO just later. I went to pick them up and when we opened I found a problem... I hope you guys have seen this before and can tell me what it is and what to do. One chick has some type of goo stuff on her head... looks like egg BUT it's smooth and hard coating...

My chicks shipped...
That's a lot of snakes!

I just found this in my nest boxes and no eggs left in the boxes, it has been hours there should have been some. It slipped away right after I took this while my back was turned to get my kids to go inside. Does anyone know what kind this is? I closed all doors and my chickens are in the yard...
You may have seen this before but I thought this thread on a homemade egg candler was neat :)
I know I haven't posted on here in FOREVER but I do read occasionally. I found Tomtommom on FB the other day and thought I might put a quick update here.
I culled my 6 roosters a few months ago...
No pink in them that I could tell and in person one comb is a little bigger than the other but not too bad. IDK if feather texture can tell you anything or if it's merely just different with each breed but the darker more solid one has glossier and more coarse feathers than the one with spots it...
