    coop location.

I have automatic sprinklers in my yard. I'm worried that getting the coop and birds wet will be a bad thing. What are your thoughts? I do have a graved area on one side of the yard but there is not natural shade there. I'd have to use some landscaping shade cloth or something. Should I avoid the...

There is a larger hatchery right here in the town next to me, Dunlap Hatchery if anyone has heard of them. I can go right to them to pick out birds, In 2 moths they will have 6-8 month old birds that will be ready to lay. I'm thinking I will wait till then plus it will give me some time to...

    What breed(s) to start with?

Thanks for the update Moomin, I have raised many animals for the dinner table; cows, pigs and even sheep. Although I never ate the sheep I sold them to people I know where going to eat them. I just never raised chickens. I will say that my main focus is on eggs and having the chickens to enjoy...

    What breed(s) to start with?

Thank you for the information. I am fortunate to have a hatchery in the town right next to me and will probably buy from there. I have been reading about Buff Orpintons. I am thinking they would be a nice start along with black Australorp. I appreciate the response.

    Wild birds invading the coop

I wonder if you provide feed for the wild birds elsewhere on the property, if they would leave the coop alone as long as there is plenty of food.

    What breed(s) to start with?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I'm totally new to chickens. I have never even really been around them much. I want to raise a few for eggs mostly and want a breed(s) that are easy to handle, quiet, good egg layers and maybe good for the dinner table. What breeds would you...

Hey as a newbie that has no real experience with chickens, I want to get a breed ore breeds that are docile, easy to manage and lay lots of good size eggs. I've been leaning towards Buff Orpingtons. Any other suggestions>

I really like the rustic look of your coop. I also like that it probably didn't cost too much. Well done.

New guy here from Idaho. Just building my first coop and new to raising chickens. I don't even have any yet. Fell onto this forum while researching how to raise chickens. I've enjoyed reading the threads. I'll be lurking around watching and leaning.
