I'm using a Rural King feed called Country Road starter crumbles. Our chickens appear to be doing very well with it... They're spoiled though and get a daily treat..lately it has been scratch grains with either mealworms, or seedless grapes or pomegranate.. they really like it

I would love to plant garlic too... we use garlic a lot and i even buy and take herbal combination of garlic, parsley and capsicum... Have to admit that I wasn't aware you planted it in the fall although that makes sense considering that is when you plant tulips, crocus and such... Always...

HE he... yes... I've heard of people having large ones that you can walk into , but even a smaller one can be made with some treated 2 by 12 planks and an old window. probably can grow a bunch of romaine, chard and other goodies for the chickens and even the family.

Very good advice... I also would add that some people make the mistake of covering plants with plastic, which will work in a pinch but it must be tented up and not touching the plants. I like the old sheet idea and even newspaper or brown paper sacks can be used to cover individual plants... You...
Romaine .... possibly spinach too.. There are probably some heat/drought tolerant plants for your area. Do you get any stretches of cool weather as i know spinach n romaine are both cool season crops. Happy gardening
