    Rooster Bachelor Pad Transition

Thanks so much for sharing! That's really helpful and encouraging to hear you're having success with multiple bachelor flocks. My 5 were indeed raised together and are very attached. So far they've been getting along well other than some minor scuffles. On the ones that you free range, how do...

    Drakes + Chicken Hens

Thanks for the feedback! So the hen could out maneuver the drake other than when she stopped to lay? Hopefully our hens lay in their raised lay boxes to avoid that problem *fingers crossed*

    Rooster Bachelor Pad Transition

THANKS SO MUCH for sharing this!! Hopefully we'll have the same success with our boys. They were raised together and while they do bicker a bit they are super attached to one another. We're lucky not to really have daytime predators in our area, but I do worry about hawks, which is why I don't...

    Drakes + Chicken Hens

Awesome! Hopefully our roo turns out to be a good protector. Since he's still young he hasn't really had a chance to prove himself.

    Rooster Bachelor Pad Transition

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I'll definitely report back with how everything goes. We did have a few days where we kicked the naughty roos out of the coop/run in the morning and let them back in at sunset (since they didn't bother the hens while they were roosting) to give us time to...

    Drakes + Chicken Hens

Sounds good! Right now the ducks and chickens totally ignore each other so I'm hoping that continues. Their mating season is in the spring, correct? Are there any duck-specific aggression behaviors I should be on the lookout for? We've had chickens before but not ducks.

Thanks for the input. We do have a rooster in the coop.

No, the 3 Rouens were raised together and they went outside right as we got the chicks, and the 4 Rouen/Runner crosses were added to the coop around 4mo and the chickens shortly after that. So you think there's a decent chance they'll be ok?

    Drakes + Chicken Hens

We currently have two 7mo Rouen drakes, one 7mo Rouen duck, and 4 other ducks (we think they're Rouen/Runner crosses and around the same age). We also have 6 EE hens and 1 EE roo in the same coop/run (they're 5mo old). Our coop is large (about 12' wide x 15' deep x 8+' tall) and so far...

    Rooster Bachelor Pad Transition

Thanks for the input. They can indeed see the hens but can't get to them as the hens are in their own run and the roos will be free ranging. If we do need to figure out a way to contain them away from the hens to prevent them fighting with each other we will, it's just a bit tricky at the moment.

    Rooster Bachelor Pad Transition

Thanks for the input. The main coop has its own run but I'd rather avoid building another run if possible as there's no good place to build a run that's accessible from inside the main barn where the stall is and we're on a really tight budget. Of course, if that's what ends up needing to happen...

    Rooster Bachelor Pad Transition

We raised a dozen easter egger hatchlings last July, and ended up with 6 hens and 6 roos. We've been keeping a close eye on them with the intent to separate the "problem" roos into a bachelor pad when the time came. Well, the time is now! Five of them have started beating up on our hens. We...

    Breed Help?

In case it's helpful, this is what the drake in their pen looked like: https://hoovershatchery.com/indianrunners.html And the drakes that were out of the same hatch had white splotches on them like they were starting to get that same coloring. Do multiple ducks lay eggs in the same nests...
