Homesteading is hard... my poor turkey hen

I would definitely bring everyone, mom and eggs and/or babies inside. I always bring my broody hens inside, that way I can keep a close eye on them, and don't have to worry about something dreadful happening. I have had chicks drown trying to get water, and other hens attacking the babies. It...

Poor bantam is all twisted up

I found a good way to get the Vitamin E into the chicken. I bought the one that says Vitamin E in "prelacaps" with Selenium. It's easy to make a small incision into the the perlecap with something sharp. I squeeze the oily stuff into the open end of a syringe. Then I cook some elbow macaroni. I...

Poor bantam is all twisted up

Well it's been 2 weeks now and she is still in the race. I've been consistently giving her the vitamins, and she's actually doing a little bit better. She's eating now without me putting the food in her mouth for her and she holds up her head and looks around sometimes so I think she's doing...

Poor bantam is all twisted up

She Isn't t going to die anytime soon I don't think but it's hard to watch she doesn't seem to be unhappy however and when I hold her she burrows into me and makes these really sweet little cooing sounds. I think she likes all the extra attention.

Poor bantam is all twisted up

We had a couple days that felt like she was responding. But the past couple days she seems to be declining. It's so sad having a chicken that's dying. She doesn't seem to be in any pain but it's painful to see it, to watch the process, loss of function, loss of quality, loss of joy. Maybe...
