Thanks Fred for the comment. Unfortunately I was just posting a question and didn't realize it would piss people off to post negatively. Simple information would have been nice. Kinda makes me not want to post on here anymore, which sucks because I like the pics, comments and comradery. But...

So sorry for ticking you off Farmergreen. I was just posting a question. We didn't put the heat lamps out there for the mass production of eggs, we did it for their comfort and warmth. And I definitely don't have an egg farm. With the purchase of new hatchlings, these won't make it...

Unfortunately our jobs do not allow for 3 to 4 times a day collection.
My husband collects them at night after work. But sometimes with kids we aren't home every night so it turns out to every other night. If I have table scraps from dinner, I will take them out and they are...
Thanks for the comments.
We have the heat lamps on a switch so we can turn them on and off as needed. They do not run 24/7. Only on the nights that it's really cold. We have a 6' x 8' with 10' tall at the peak. In the center of the cathedral ceiling, we have installed 2 light fixture...
Our 16 chickens arrived in mid April 2010 and were 2 days old. They started laying their first eggs the end of July, beginning of August. For a while we got 2, then it progressed to 5, then 10 and so on. By the end of summer, they were producing 8 to 9 a day. This is an extremely cold winter...
Are you in that big of a need for the egg that you found? If you have a good bit, just get rid of it. But the float test is good. If you get them soon, all will sink. If it's old, it will float. We normally get our eggs every 2 days. But if you think it could've been there for a while...
Thanks everyone. We have been giving them just about everything left over and its still edible to humans. I give them a lot of veggies from the waste of preparing them for canning (I.e. tops of tomatos, ends of green beans). We also give them the watermellons that bust open (seems to be a lot)...
Does anyone feed their chickens house scraps? We have our chickens in a house and run. Within a month all vegetation in the run was gone. Their house and run is next to the garden so anything I pull out I give to them. But what about house scraps? Thoughts?
J&D Chickens :
I didn't even know they made a such thing as a chicken diaper. Haha I was wondering because we go into the coop about 20 minutes every night and I can't hold them without them pooping on my hand.
Do you like around a lot of pine trees? I'm from Georgia and roaches LOVE pine...

I would have screamed with that too!
I do have one question, how do you keep Chickpea from pooping all over stuff in the house. Would love to have some baby chicks in the house when we start getting eggs.
