Pullets sleeping in the nest box

I don't know how big of a problem it is, I just don't want them to poop on their eggs when they start laying. That's why I asked Maybe once they start laying they'll know not to sleep and poop where they lay their eggs and it won't be a problem. I'm gonna be safe and try to keep them out of...

Pullets sleeping in the nest box

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll probably block them off with cardboard for now. Quote: Hehe, mine do that too. They were all packed together up top panting but were fine when I put them in the cool grass downstairs. It's kind of funny having to move them around, they're so docile when...

Pullets sleeping in the nest box

My pullets are a little over 6 weeks old and I put them out in their new chicken tractor/coop last week (it's an A-frame design with the coop on top and a run at the bottom, the catawbacoops.com design). I finally got them going up into the coop at night by themselves, without having to manually...

Any plans or a chicken coop for 3 chickens?

I just build an A-frame chicken tractor for 3 chickens with plans from http://catawbacoops.com/. I have pics of the construction process at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jon30350/sets/72157626451429655/ so you can see what you'd be getting into if you went with those plans. They were very easy...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hi everyone, I'm Jon and I live in Roswell. We're allowed to have 6 chickens based on my lot size (about half an acre). I only have three right now. The plan is to start with 3 and after a couple years get some more. My girlfriend won't let me eat them when they stop laying, and I don't want to...

Chicks 6 weeks.... in the 40's at night....

Mine are almost 6 weeks and I put them out last night for the first time. It went down to 48. They were all huddled together in the nesting box in the morning, but they were fine and up and chirpy when it warmed up.

    Brooder- What Sized Rubber Tub?

I used a 31 gallon rubbermaid, it was fine for 3 chicks until they were 6 weeks old - then it got cramped. You probably have more than that so a 31 gallon would only be good for a few weeks.

    new chicken tractor

Quote: Thanks! For the skirt, I'm going to use some 1x2 planks and some more 1/2" hardware cloth (wire mesh) and build 4 rectangles out of it. two will be 8ftx12in, an two will be 6ftx12in. The 8ft ones will go along the long (8ft) sides, the 6ft ones will go on the short (4ft) edges, so...

    new chicken tractor

Quote: Nope, they'll be full-sized chickens when they grow up. The golden one is a Golden Laced Wyandotte. I also have a Silver Laced Wyandotte and a Buff Brahma.

Girls Moved to Coop Tonight! Please Tell Me If They Need Heat

Quote: Dusty little buggers, aren't they?! Luckily they were in my girlfriend's spare room so it's her job to clean up the dusty chick aftermath

    new chicken tractor

I'm new to chickens and the forum, but I thought I'd post the pictures of the chicken tractor I just built. I used plans from http://www.catawbacoops.com with some modifications. I used cedar so it was kind of expensive, about $350 for the wood and another $50 in hardware/screws/stain/etc. Here...
