What color is the inside of your coop?

We use Behr from Home Depot or Sherwin Williams and any light paint odor I find disipates quickly. My chickens don't peck at the roosts and there shouldnt/won't be paint flakes for many years. Some people don't paint the roost bars and make them removeable so they can be taken out and scrubbed...

Anyone tried Purina’s new high protein feed?

I want to add one more thing to my comment above. I don't think New Country Organics is a bad feed. It was the first pellet my girls had and they weren't appreciative! I'm still mixing it with the Golden Oak and they seem to prefer the slightly smaller pellet size of New Country Organics. I'm...

Anyone tried Purina’s new high protein feed?

I would like to know the ingredients as I'm still looking. I started the girls on Scratch and Peck---beautiful seeds and bsfl protein... but I found myself throwing away so much of the powder (where all the vitamins and grub protein are) and they would pick thru to their fav seeds. I tried...

What color is the inside of your coop?

The interior of my coop is white. I read somewhere to paint with deck paint for ease of cleaning and that's what I used. I also caulked the cracks to counter bug-a-boos having a place to hide. The exterior is medium gray with white trim. The white interior does have poo scattered Jackson Pollock...

Just a girl trying to raise some chickens in DFW

I see. I'm now leaning towards wood chips as the the thought of emptying the run of sand every year to clean it, let it sit out for a year while adding in new sand sounds like a lot of work!

Thanks for the reply. Reviews showed someone used it for a coop and another used it for a dusty wood shop. It's hard getting anything to help in this Texas heat but I think this is working well and is pretty quiet. Going to open up some more ventilation at the top of the coop after reading here...

Do you use pine shavings? I may be overthinking all of this. Thank you for your reply and photos. Do you raise pheasant and quail for meat? Eggs?

Yes, the run is covered. What do you use in your coop and run?

Hi 007! I see you're in Texas and living through the non stop 100 degree temps! So hot! Do you have any suggestions regarding coop flooring? I planned to use construction sand in the coop and run for ease of cleaning. Should I put down vinyl flooring over the painted floor (porch paint), coat...

Hello! Thanks for the reply. I'm unsure if it's sealed. The description shown below says "fully enclosed motor". Does this mean its sealed? Is sealing what I would need to do or do I need to ask the manufacturer? fan...

    Coop flooring

Hello! I'm trying to decide what to use in my coop. Right now I've painted the coop with porch and floor paint and plan to add construction sand. I'm hoping for easy clean up. I was thinking of painting the coop floor and 1' up the walls with flex seal. I'm in Texas and we've had 100 degree...

Just a girl trying to raise some chickens in DFW

Hi, My son built a coop, I ordered chicks and my husband and I have spent MANY hours painting, predator proofing, tweaking and fretting over our sweet little chickens! They're 7 weeks now and we're still getting it all figured out. I have 9 different birds and it's interesting how they're all so...
