    10 year old "retired" hen laying again after 3 years

    Yes, I have a hen that’s at least 10 years old. I put her in the chicken run with the seramas. She’s blind but does just fine finding the food and water and her roost. She stopped laying for the longest time and then last year started laying on a regular basis. I call her Minnie the Minorca.

    rooster having swollen wattles, loss of balance and not eating..

    If you find out what it is let me know, please. My rooster started doing a prancing kick back sort of walking. It started a few months ago. He had an injury to his comb but no breathing problems. Other than the funky walking he seems fine. I’d just like to know what it is. It’s not his spurs.

    I’ve actually been a non-participating BYC member for 5 years but now that I’m retired I should have more time to participate, right? I started with 6 pullets ( 4 barred rocks and 2 buff Orpington) and 2 hens ( comets) 6 years ago. The last comet hen died about a month ago, so she was 6 years...

    @spchicken. A good roo to hen ratio is 1 roo to 7-10 hens. I hatched 18 eggs and only got 5 pullets. I've been trying to rehome the extra Roos with no luck. I know aggressive behavior is needed to protect the flock but with so many Roos it's not good. I have no choice but to look up recipes for...
