    Myurbanfarmers "The Resort" chicken coop

I agree about the roosts - they are too low in relation to the nest boxes. As appealing as the design is in other ways, the low roosts would be a deal breaker for me. You will constantly be dealing with poop on your eggs, you simply can't teach a hen not to sleep (and poop) in a nest box...

    My chickens won't eat vegetables

Just keep doing it. Give them a little each day, they just need a bit of time to get used to the idea. And vary your offerings. They'll come around, they're born eating machines!

    Mob of chickens...hungry?

Well, of course they come running up to you! You feed them! Also, don't discount their curiosity. You are the most interesting thing they ever see. They love gossiping, and you give them plenty to gossip about.

    ran out

If you have other animals, try feeding your chicks some of their feed. Chickens are omnivores, so yes, they can eat meat. You could also try some cooked rice or other grain, and some cooked veggies. It won't hurt them to not have a perfectly balanced diet for one day.

Getting my confidence back and preventing food agression

Since mine were small, I made sure to pick each one up every day. They don't love it, but they also don't freak out when I do it, nor are they a bit afraid of me, although I must loom like a skyscraper over them. It's much easier to take good care of them when they accept you as a normal part of...

The "waste" subject again. Picky birds??

Feed them wet feed! I buy regular chicken crumble/mash and mix it with hot water just before I feed it. Stir it up until it is like oatmeal. They can't pick through it, and all the dust gets incorporated into the feed. I have no waste at all. I have six hens. I measure out 2 1/2 cups of...

In search of the elusive dark orange yolk

I have 6 hens, and am not set up to let them free-range. I feed good-quality layer pellets soaked in water overnight. I feed this in the morning. In the afternoon, they get sprouted wheat and what kitchen waste I generate (not much), dried stinging nettle and fresh dandelions and chickweed...

    Chicken coop for renters

I am a renter in the Puget Sound area, and need to build a coop for up to 10 hens. The coop needs to *easily* come apart, so it doesn't need 3 guys and a pickup to move. I am envisioning panels, but I am at a loss as to how to fasten the panels together - I was wondering about piano hinges...
