I have 5 hens (1 Australorp, 2 RIR and 2 RIW) and 1 Australorp roo, they are about 2 yrs old but none of the hens will sit for me. I wanted to some chicks but not one of the hens will sit on the eggs. Anyone know why? I have 2 RIR that looks like the roo is mounting them than the other 3. The...
I've moved in with my parents due to their aging and ongoing medical problems but left my chickens, ducks, dogs and cats at my house which is about 5 minutes away. I've decided to sell my place so I've gotta move all of my animals here. I'm needing a good coop design that is easy and inexpensive...
Been away for awhile because of my divorce but it was final last Sept. Yesterday my youngest Sam and I were in TSC and the lady asked if we wanted some chicks, they were only 99 cents each, ducklings $1.00 each so I ended up with 6 chicks and 2 ducklings, we are on our way once again and I'm so...
Our hens won't lay their eggs in the boxes, they lay them on the floor and in one certain corner of the coop. We get one egg from the boxes but the rest on the floor. Why do most of them lay in the same spot? How can I get them to lay in the boxes not on the floor in the corner?
My husband put him in with all the hens and so far he isn't trying to fight with any of them but he seems to have no interest in doing the wild thing with any of them. He does stand guard while they are in the coop laying though, he will go in and stand around like he is waiting to inspect the...
I did jams last year and loved it. I haven't been around anyone canning in years...use to help my mom but then she stopped doing it. We use to can lots of things and it was great to be able to open up something from the garden in the middle of winter. I'm hoping now that we have a better tiller...
Okay I've read many ways to do this and have tried a number of them, but I'm having problems with my eggs falling apart when I start to peel them and they are kind of slimy. I boil them for 20 mins then do the ice bath or run cold tap water over them, then I peel them as soon as they are cool...
Not the birds in the picture with him, those are some young fellars we just got...the hubs figured 5 young roosters against him would be fair so he put them in there with him. Sorry for the confusion. When we first got him we put two hens in there with him and he started fighting with them, then...
Does anyone have any clue what breeds me might have in him? And he was also raised in a seperate pen with only one other rooster and when he was put in a pen with some hens he wanted to fight with them, even after awhile that's all he wanted to do. Since he hasn't ever been with hens, will he...
