Yes, I think it had 6 legs so it must be a louse. Thank you everyone for your help, I picked off all the ones that I could see. I think it had mites on it as well as I could see them running around through the fluff. I bought some spray with permethrin as the main ingredient and it seems to have...
Yes, it was stuck to the top of the chicks head, I had to pull it off. Now that you mention it, I see that there is no blood in them when they’re squashed.
I’m in Australia, and I haven’t heard of permethrin, but I’ll have a go at just picking them off as you said and see how I go. I might have to order permethrin if that doesn’t work. Thank you!
I’ve attached a picture of one of the bugs I pulled off but I don’t really know what it is, and it’s a...
Hi everyone,
I have a single 1-2 day old chick which I have just rescued from my Aunty and I have noticed it has ticks and lice.
I don’t want to put it with my other chicks as I don’t want it to spread, so I have separated it in another cage.
Does anyone have any idea on what I would be able...
I tried peeling back the membrane of the chick bit by bit to help it but the chick was dead. I’ll definitely be more prepared if this happens again, so thank you everyone for your help again.
I have tried to candle it but I can’t see anything, I think the air cell may have burst. I don’t think the chick is alive :( Thanks for your help though
Thanks for everyone’s help. It’s been about 12 hours since the egg was squashed and the chick has stopped moving in the egg. The veins in the egg have thinned but it hasn’t moved at all leading me to believe it’s gone. Some of the other eggs in the same clutch have hatched/beginning to hatch...
I have put it in an ‘incubator’ that I have made up and put some Vaseline over the parts where the shell is missing, so we’ll see how we go.
The chick was moving before so I assumed the air cell was still intact, as the shell was missing on the long side of the egg.
Thanks for all your help!!
Hi everyone,
I currently have a broody hen sitting on a clutch of 6 Barnevelder eggs and today I noticed that one of the eggs has been squashed by another one of my hens. It’s day 19 and I can see the chick inside is still alive as there is movement in the egg, but I don’t know what to do with...
