    Is this a rooster?

Thanks, that’s very interesting. I guess I’ll have to wait and see with this one

    Is this a rooster?

Thanks so much, it’s really helpful to see your examples. There is definitely a dark splash on the legs - do you know why the females have that? I actually don’t think the comb stands out as much in real life as it does in this picture . The colouring of mine seems a bit darker than yours too...

    Is this a rooster?

No they didn’t guarantee the sex, though they said they would do their best. They were a couple of weeks old when we got them as replacements for the day olds we originally got that died of cocci. If we replace these two we will have taken home nine chicks in six weeks. We only wanted to get two...

    Is this a rooster?

Hi everyone, we’ve got four chicks are present and are concerned that two might be male. Actually we know one is because I emailed the place we bought it from with some picks and they confirmed it. They are hard to get a response out of so I haven’t asked about this other one yet and I’m hoping...

Reality of keeping a Rooster and other questions

Yes we’re new to chickens, grew up with lots of cats and dogs but I’m not sure that is any help with chickens

Reality of keeping a Rooster and other questions

Well I suppose my question was whether I would be able to get away with it with the no crow collar, just sassing out options. I just meant if the Rooster theoretically didn’t make enough noise to upset the neighbours then I’d be happy to take the risk with the local council - my parents have...

Reality of keeping a Rooster and other questions

Yikes, I definitely don’t want to risk that happening to our kids. We’l be free-ranging to the risks are too great. Yeah I wasn’t totally sold on the collar either, just thought it might be preferable from the roosters point of view to being slaughtered

Reality of keeping a Rooster and other questions

Thanks so much, that’s what I was hoping to hear. A little affection would make it all worth it!

Reality of keeping a Rooster and other questions

Thanks for the response, you’re probably right about not being worth the risk with the kids. I’ve never really met an adult rooster before so I don’t know what to expect on that front. I suppose I thought that coming from a supposedly docile breed and being raised around my boys might mitigate...

Reality of keeping a Rooster and other questions

Hi all, this is my first post. We’re new to chicken-keeping. We’ve had a bit of a rough introduction. We initially bought two day-old chicks, with a plan to get more in the future. They were lovely and we bonded with them nicely and they seemed to love cuddles with us (We could be projecting, I...
