    Any other hawaiians out there?

My husband is losing his job here on Oahu before the end of the year and we've decided that we'll be better off relocating to the mainland for better opportunities and more social support. We've lined up a house to live in already but I cannot keep chickens there. I have two lovely buff...

    Is this fowl pox?

As an update, both chicks died in quarantine. I thought they were on the mend for a while, but then they took a turn for the worse. I did my best. Either the pox or some coccidiosis took them out. I don't regret trying to help, and I've learned a lot from this experience playing vet. If there's...

    Is this fowl pox?

Thank you! I ended up buying both Oxyrid and Enzum, which I believe is the same active ingredient as Valbazen? I used Oxyrid in the eyes of both chicks. It worked really quick! The worms immediately were paralyzed/dead. I pulled four out of one eye and a chunk of ten or so from another. (The...

    Is this fowl pox?

Out of curiosity -- if my two 3-year-old laying hens ended up with pox and/or worms and I was asking for help would you have the same advice? Cull and start over? Are there any chicken illnesses you think can or should be treated instead of culling? Or are you more tolerant of treating...

    Is this fowl pox?

This is Oahu. The worm eggs are already in the soil everywhere.

    Is this fowl pox?

As an update to this I found Manson's eye worms in the eyes of the smaller chick this morning. Judging from all their symptoms I think fowl pox + eye worms explains everything. I pulled out two worms by hand but I can't get the rest so I'm going on a quest for Oxyrid tonight. The chicks are...

    Is this fowl pox?

Oh sorry I didn't reply to your first question. I'm located in Hawaii. There are no lesions inside the beak on the bigger one. I wiped their eyes with a wet paper towel and now they both can open both eyes and the goop is gone. The eyes are just watery/irritated from the scabs on the eyelid...

    Is this fowl pox?

What makes you say that? To be perfectly honest I'm attached now and I don't want to kill them if it's just fowl pox.

    Is this fowl pox?

Yeah, the swollen eyes are discharging yellow fluid sometimes. I can't see inside the beak tho'; the lil dudes won't let me open their mouths and I don't wanna hurt em.

    Is this fowl pox?

I found two abandoned feral chicks in my yard yesterday with growths all over their face. They were shivering like mad so I set up a brooder and got them inside. They each have one swollen eye and one open eye, and they're very very sleepy, way sleepier than most chicks. I mashed some boiled egg...
