Ah. Exactly what I needed to hear. As we're in single digits now the sand is suuupperr cold so I was hoping bedding on top would help a little. Probably won't, but it makes me feel better?
Hey all, does anyone have experience putting Hemp bedding or deep litter for that matter on top of sand?
I have sand in my coop but was going to put hemp bedding down on top of it for winter.
I know sand doesn't compost so I know it won't be true deep litter, just exploring options to keep...
Does anyone give their flock rose hips? We have a ton of wild rose in our area and would love to know if anyone else gives them. I hear they're loaded with vitamin c.
Do they need to be cooked first?
Can I forage a bunch and dehydrate/freeze?

This whole explanation is AWESOME. I can not thank you enough. the coop is on a slight downslope so one of the posts will not be elevated... since I'm cutting a hole in the bottom of the bucket does it just stay in the ground forever?
