Frugal,
Thanks for the great Information.
Looking at your 1st and 2nd pictures I wonder if you could tell me
where you got that killing cone?
I would have struggled with a true "cone" shape but I see
the logic of your design.
Did you buy it or create it yourself?
Thanks
Hello All,
I have one 8 month old Buff O that has gone broody. I read many posts on the subject.
I have her in a separate cage with just a wire bottom floor with a
plastic pan underneath and a roosting bar. Plenty of food and water.
This is the 4th day I have had her separated. I let her run...
I have just lost my first adult Orpington.
They are 7 months old.
There were 13 of them.
They are all laying eggs.
I cleaned the coop this afternoon. Out with the
old pine shavings and in with the new. I dusted down the walls
and Shop-vac ed everything.
Fresh water and food.
I just saw her...
Hello Group,
Now that my chickens are laying regularly and I am seeing
money accumulate from sales I wanted to cut
back on expenses by making my own pine chips for litter.
I chipped the equivalent of 2 bales yesterday and put it in the
Coop. The hens seemed to love it, lots of digging and...
I have a dozen Buff Orpingtons that I absolutely love.
They are 23 weeks old.
I am averaging 9 eggs a day now and they
are terrific to watch and easy to take care of.
So iv'e caught the hatch bug. I would love to have a next-gen
of these particular Orpingtons.
1. Where do I get ONE Orpington...
Thanks Laura, et al.
Shes Okay when shes out. Free ranging is quiet time and they
all coo and scratch.
What I really wanted to know was did someone replace her as the
screamer? I thought maybe it was a queen-of-the-flock thing
and if she was gone one of the others would fill that roll.
Thanks...
I have 12 of the nicest Orpingtons on the planet. They are about
22 weeks old.
But Number 13 is completely obnoxious..almost never shuts up
and screams bloody murder.
I watch her on my chicken-cam and she just walks around and yells.
Pick this..dig that..then screeeeeem
No..it's not a...
I haven't seen them on the pan. I suppose an accidental crash into
it from them rough-housing might be a problem but the Orps are so big now
they wouldn't fit on it.
I am going to try some more versions. I'll keep it updated.
Yes..spills are a problem if you don't get the height right. I just lowered
the bottom piece into the pan further.
If I could find a Half-round bowl I think it would work better.
Another good fix is to have the dustpan tilt upward slightly. It's amazing
how a little adjustment makes a big...
The first egg seemed to be a difficult delivery.
The wrinkle is where my wife glued it all back together
after I broke it open to see if it was okay.
The second is from the same chicken.
I know there at least 3 others that will lay any minute.
These are from big Orpingtons and these first two...
Its been 5 hours..I checked her vent the opening is smaller and I dont see
any red mass like before.
Any help or experience would be great at this point.
