    Extending height of electric fence?

Hi all! We have 4ft. tall electric poultry netting and it’s worked great for 1.5y until a bobcat jumped into the run a few days ago and got at least 2 chickens. One was just dead without injury- maybe a heart attack from seeing the bobcat? 😞 I tested the fence voltage, it works fine! I think we...

Bobcat got 2 of our chickens despite electric fence!

Thanks for your reply! So what do you think about a 4ft electric fence on the bottom and a 4ft deer fence on the top to prevent jumping predators? Haven’t had issues with birds so far!

Bobcat got 2 of our chickens despite electric fence!

Yeah I mean I didn’t see it happen but since it was in the run 2 weeks ago I assume it was. Neighbors have been seeing bobcats too. We do have bears, cougars and hawks too in this area but the sightings and attacks all happened in broad daylight too( between 10am and 6pm) which is not usual for...

Bobcat got 2 of our chickens despite electric fence!

Hi all, I am pretty sure a bobcat got two of our 16 chickens! We saw feathers but not actually the cat this time. She was in the run about two weeks ago and we chased her off. We have a 48” tall electric fence (premier 1 supplies brand). I guess it just leaped over without getting shocked? Other...

Layer Feed that Isn't Pellets. Okay?

Have you tried whole grain complete chicken food? My girls love it and it’s better for them too. Less processed. I know of 2 companies that make it: “scratch & peck” But it is a complete layer or grower feed and Modesto milling. Not cheap but I buy ours through azure.com , maybe there is a drop...

Layer feed in winter for non laying chicken?

Thank you all, that has been so helpful! Will switch back to grower and oyster shell on the side (crumbled egg shells do the trick too right?!) 🙏🙏🙏

Layer feed in winter for non laying chicken?

Hello! So we have 10 chickens 20 weeks old who haven’t started laying before the winter hit. I think now it is too cold for them to lay (freezing temps almost every night) until the spring. Do I still feed them layer feed throughout the winter? I’m worried they’re getting too much calcium since...

Help! Coop for chicks is too hot!

Yes netting but the chicken wire is an idea! I thought that they would avoid the fence too even if they would technically fit through it but the customer service lady at premier one said they have to be 12weeks ish (they are 4 right now). Thanks for the advice!

Help! Coop for chicks is too hot!

Hello all! Our coop in inside a barn and it easily reaches 95 in there during the day, we bought an electric fence because outside in the shade is much cooler but I just learned they have to be about 12 weeks to not squeeze through the holes in the fence. I’m doing everything I can to cool them...
