Hilary - You hen from what I can see in the pics looks like a barred rock. I also have a barred rock that when I was spraying the flock’s feet last night for scaly leg mites noticed her foot was also swollen and had a green spot on hers too. Very similar to your picture. Did you ever find out...
I found this camera on Amazon for my nest boxes and have had them for a little over a month now and they are working great…clear picture. You do have to charge it if you don’t have electricity to your coop so I bought a second one to swap out while the other is charging but, they are only $26.99...
No worries!! We are originally from the Detroit area and moved over here about 7 years ago. We are trying to locate a local breeder for a new batch of chicks and that’s why I was asking. Thanks for the reply.
What ended up happening with your hen? I just had the implant done a little over a week ago and I started noticing the last day or two my hen has started getting liquid poo as well. She is still eating and drinking but, just seems to be down a little. She is also starting to molt. I’m curious if...
:celebrateSo I’m not the only one!!! I’m such a worry wart myself and sometimes think I’m the only crazy chicken momma who freaks out when I see one of my girls napping in the sun!! Inevitably they get up and take off running when I come near like oh geez her she comes again everyone run and...
Did this work for you? We got scaly left mites and used elector PSP and it did t appear to work. We ended up using a vegetable oil dip every other day for two weeks. That seemed to work but, just not sure how long before the scales will go back to normal.
Here is a couple pictures of my hens I am slightly concerned about. The sapphire gem is molting so her comb is not the prettiest. The other is my olive egger and she is not molting. She’s the one I am mostly concerned about. They are both acting normal otherwise.
We have 15 girls and a 12x16 coop 7’ ceilings with a 7/12 pitch roof and with ten 4” soffit vents and four 12”x12” gable vents. It appears to be dry in the coop…the bedding is dry and we don’t have any moisture build up anywhere that I can tell. We are in SW Michigan and I am wondering if this...
Following to see if anyone believes it is frostbite as I was concerned about one of my hens combs and curious to see what everyone thinks. I am new to chicken keeping and our first winter last year we didn’t have to worry as our run was small and entirely covered out of the wind. We now have a...
It warmed up a bit today compared to last couple days lol …we are at 10 degrees and with the windchill -4. It’s 5 am in West Michigan and we got over two feet of snow this past weekend and it’s still snowing. I have been doing my best to keep our 15 girls comfortable and as warm as possible...
Awesome!! Thank you so much for the feedback and advice!!! I am new to this and there is so much information out there it’s hard to tell what’s the best. Our fours two year olds were in a much smaller coop and run that we could easily wrap and kept them warm but, chicken math got us and we now...
