    Egg bind and Calcium

I finally figured out what was wrong with my Delaware. About once a week she has egg binding symptoms, usually manages to lay a soft/shell-less egg. I'm just glad I never had to take drastic steps to get the egg out of her. From reading lots of articles on-line, seems like calcium is probably...

    Sick Hen- What's wrong?

My two year old Delaware is not looking well. For the past couple weeks, she was lethargic in the morning and wobbled when she walked (maybe once or twice a week). Laid some soft shell eggs. When I came home this afternoon, she had already been in the nesting box. She stayed in there for 2.5...

     egg eaters

Mustard or dish soap did not work for me. They actually like the taste of mustard. I found that also encourages them to eat eggs. Golf balls may work. Roll away nesting box has been the most successful. But egg eating can still happen if they lay in the coop (in my case).

Egg eaters Due to nutritional deficiencies

I have egg eating problems for months. I built a roll away nesting box and put curtains in front of nesting box, this works if the hens lay in the boxes. Sometimes the hens lay in the coop, which means no eggs for us since the two egg eaters get to it first. I tried golf balls (painted in brown...

Hens eating eggs! Running of out ideas!

@sjturner79 , @Sutremaine , @junebuggena - I have calcium mixed with grit available. The food is from Southern States. From all your suggestions, I may need to get grower feed instead? Or a better quality feed?? Food...

How to Get Hens to Lay in Nesting Box?

I have a couple hens that eat eggs, we built a roll away nesting box to help solve this problem. It works when the hens lay in the nesting box. We still find a couple egg shells in the coop. We've put in curtains (up for a few weeks now) and glued plastic eggs in the nesting box (two eggs in...

Hens eating eggs! Running out of ideas!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll try the higher protein feed. Does it matter where I put the fake eggs? My husband thinks if we put the fake eggs in the coop then the hens will lay in the coop instead of the nesting box. The rollaway nesting box is a good idea except when they don't lay in...

Hens eating eggs! Running of out ideas!

Thanks, Chooks4life. We clipped the upper beak, that didn't work. I'm going to try some wood eggs or golf balls, scatter that all over the coop and see it that would work.

Hens eating eggs! Running of out ideas!

Two of my four hens have been eating eggs for the past few months. Some days no eggs at all, some days we get all four. We try to get the eggs as soon as possible, but often difficult because we work all day. Mustard doesn't work, if fact they enjoy eating mustard. Golf ball doesn't work either...
