    water consumption during molt

    My girls started their molt period about a month ago. Ever since that started, it seems that they are drinking less water. Is this normal behavior during molt? Anything I should do to help encourage them to drink more water? thanks!

    when will laying resume after brooding ends?

    My 7 mos old Black Copper Maran was laying eggs and then became broody for several days. However, her broodiness ended about 2 mos ago but she has not started laying again. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks.

    Dried leaves for deep litter method

    Not sure. I used DLM last winter with a base of wood shavings and then lots of straw on top and it seemed to work well.

    blood on egg shell

    My Easter Egger laid an egg today that had blood on the outside of the shell. I have not seen this before. What caused this and should I be concerned? Thanks!

    Is this the start of a molt? Or something else?

    Thanks much for the replies. It appears it is not lice and merely the result of an aggressive young rooster. He bites the back of the hen's neck when he mounts them. Hopefully, it will be less of an issue over time as he matures.
