It helps a little that my brooder is in my bathroom. I’m in there frequently, and can give it a quick rinse. (I have cats so brand new chicks always brood in the bathroom first lol)
I change them in the morning and evening, that’s for ten chicks. And even the splay legged baby was able to drink with no issue! I know they make special waterers but I was desperate lol!
Hey all!
I ended up with quail chicks and zero clue how to care for them, and unfortunately I did lose one to drowning, EVEN with the tiniest rivulet of water in a chick waterer and marbles. SO, that created a need for a better solution, and fast, as the stores were closed. Check this out: a...
Also a quail hopped out of my makeshift brooder today and let me tell you. If you’ve never witnessed a pale yellow cotton ball moving across your floor at the speed of a fighter jet, you haven’t lived.
Ayyyy they are adorable! 🥹 I’ve got a serious problem cause I also want silkies and Cochins but I’m currently at 22 birds. 😅 (gotta say birds, I keep forgetting the quail are not chickens haha)
Oh how cool!! Thank you for commenting!! We’re Akers sisters LOL 🐥
And thank you for the frizzle info! I think they are both hens?
Lost a couple quail babies but the way I see it, they were warm and fed and happy and I gave them the best possible chance!
Serious question for you all…HOW in the chicken math did I bring home ten button quail today?
Here’s a hint: In my local (mostly crap) farm store, there were ten babies. A couple had splayed legs so I went to tell the employee so they could take a look. She said, nah they’ll probably all die...
:D**photo update!**:D
My daughter’s Barred Rocks meet the Seramas!!
Born on May 30, they’re now 8 weeks old!
Looks like two hens. What do y’all think?? 🤔
Also fairly certain the black one is frizzled! 💕
Hello!! The Seramas live in my living room for now lol. They’re in a wooden tortoise cage with windows and screen top, it’s really perfect for them at this age!
Still trying to decide on what I want for permanent housing for them.
Hello! I’m starting this thread for myself to document my chicken journey. I was given hatching eggs for Jungle Fowl, and possible Terrorfowl from a close family friend with a breeding project. A month later for Mother’s Day, my kids gave me micro Serama hatching eggs that they ordered to be...
I’m still trying to decide what to do with my babies when it’s time. They already want more space to stretch those lil wings!! I might keep them in an outdoor coop during the day but bring them in the house at night. On the extreme other side of the spectrum I have jungle fowl, I’m making a...
