Chicks with Coccidia and Sour Crop? 2 Died Already. Help!

I don't have any good experiential help for sour crop but the Corid should correct the coccidiosis. Keeping the bedding bone dry helps a lot too. Coccidia need a moist environment to complete their life cycle. Thank you! I’ve got a good system for water in place that keeps the bedding dry. The...

Chicks with Coccidia and Sour Crop? 2 Died Already. Help!

I have 2 groups of chicks. 1 group of nine 6 week old Pita pinta and 1 group of ten 4 week old Denizli Longcrowers. They are being brooded together in my garage in a 6 ft by 6 ft brooder. I feed them medicated chick starter. I was gone all day yesterday, but fed them and changed water before I...

    Broody Silkies

Thank you so much! We’ll be keeping a close eye on them. So far they haven’t moved from their crate and seem to be getting along together. I have another smaller dog crate I can put in there if I need to. This will be a learning experience for sure! I’m hoping for a good outcome. Thanks again! 😊

    Broody Silkies

We have 2 eleven month old silkies. They’ve both gone broody for the first time. I moved them to their own large plastic dog crate today and gave them both some eggs. They immediately arranged their eggs and seemed content to set. Is it ok to let them brood together? The dog crate is set out in...

Mycoplasma Rest Period Before Introducing New Chicks

I recently posted about sick chicks and guinea keets with URI symptoms that pointed to possibly MG. 2 keets died and 1 Cochin died and over half the chicks and keets were symptomatic, so we decided to cull, trying to prevent introducing disease to our current adult flock and newly hatched chicks...

    Sick Chicks—Looks Like Something Contagious

Poop seems normal. Yes, so far only one eye affected. The guinea was the right eye. The Cochin the left. I think the bantam was the left but I’m not positive and he seems fine now.

    Sick Chicks—Looks Like Something Contagious

No fumes or paint. We recently moved so mostly cardboard boxes—no room for a car in the garage. Lol Symptoms are shut/swollen eye with bubbles and nasal drainage. I got 3 Cochin chicks and 9 guinea keets from the local breeder. I put them in with 8 buff Orpington chicks and 8 bantams chicks...

    Sick Chicks—Looks Like Something Contagious

I absolutely hate it, but I’m thinking about culling the whole bunch and starting over. I don’t want to risk spreading it to my adult birds and I’m getting new chicks shipped to me in May. This is first time I’ve ever bought birds from an individual. Lesson learned I guess.

    Sick Chicks—Looks Like Something Contagious

Sorry for the confusion—The first keet with the swollen eye (I noticed when I got them home from the breeder on 3/18) died on 3/19 and the second on 3/21. The rest of the chicks were fine until Thursday 3/25, when I noticed the black Cochin chick’s eye. Hopefully that helps clarify. The brooder...

    Sick Chicks—Looks Like Something Contagious

So one of the other Cochin chicks died last night. She wasn’t exhibiting any URI symptoms but was acting off and staying under the brooder plate more. I contacted the breeder who has been helpful and has offered a refund, but is saying her birds are fine. The symptoms started 7-8 days after I...

Chicks and Keets with Swollen Eye

I’ve given them Nutridrench. Poops look fine. I’ve seen a couple that were a bit yellow/foamy but I’ve seen Nutridrench do that before to healthy chicks. Another Cochin chick died last night. That chick was not exhibiting any URI symptoms but I noticed her staying under the brooder plate and...
