What breed of duckling do I have?

I bought some ducks from Tractor Supply but I am not 100% sure what kind they are. I think they are Khaki Campbell. But they could be Cayugas or runners or something else. The store said they didnt know but that they only buy from breeders so they are purebread. Any ideas? thanks, James

Mr chicken's injury. What is going on?

eurgh. thats nasty. So can other chickens do this by pecking so much at her? The raccoon killed a chicken on the top floor of the coop and Gemma usually lives on the bottom, but it is possible it had a bite

Mr chicken's injury. What is going on?

I must warn you that these pictures are quite graphic. I have a Gold Laced Wyandotte (Gemma) who started getting pecked, so we put some Rooster Booster lotion on to deter the other hens, but they carried on. Ironically, Gemma was always the big bully in the past, and now she is the victim...

    Chickens not started laying yet

Hi, Around Spring time we bought 4 hens from the Co-op (Australorps and Gold Laced Wyandottes), and they started laying 2 eggs a day pretty quickly. Then on May 21st, we got another batch of 30 hens from Murry McMurry. They are mostly Blue Laced Red Wyandottes (which all turned out to be...

Hen keeps flying over 7ft fence despite clipping her wing

Thanks for your answers. We caught her doing it yesterday and saw how she was doing it. She is climbing up the welded wire with her feet. Not flying at all. Its really peculiar, I have never heard of a chicken doing that. A monkey sure, but a chicken? So I think I will need to put a "lip"...

Hen keeps flying over 7ft fence despite clipping her wing

Thanks for your ideas, I'm not going to de-wing her but you're right, I might have to reconsider the pen. The pen is a 16'x24'x7' wooden frame (made of 2x4s) with welded wire. I have seen her perched on the top of the frame before, and I have also had an unclipped dominique perch up there...

Hen keeps flying over 7ft fence despite clipping her wing

Hi, I have a flock of about 30 hens (of many varieties). Our problem child of the flock, is of course a Silver Speckled Hamburg. She is a slender, flighty bird, with more of a pidgin shape than a fat hen, so she can fly very well. She kept flying out of our 7' tall pen and sleeping up a...

    What is your favorite breed

For temperament, Australorps are the best. They always come over and are so tame and friendly and make nice noises around you. My favorite chicken for looks is a Gold Laced Polish. But for the combo of laying, personality and looks..., yes I agree, Wyandottes. Although I ordered 8 Blue...

Help! whatever is eating my chicken eggs took 5 wooden ones!

How about you drill a hole in an egg and fill it with rat poison, then leave it outside the chicken pen so it can only be touched by snakes/critters. That will show it!

    Gold lacd wyandotte question

its kinda hard to resist, when you're in there buying layer and they have a tub fall of a breed you dont have, chirping "pick me"

    Chickens not spreading out

oh some climbing apparatus. No but I'm working on that. I have a felled tree, so I'm going to put the stump in the pen and some 4x4s in the coop in the design you have. I might put the 4x4s on the top floor - will that make them want to go upstairs if there is a jungle jim up there?,

Help! whatever is eating my chicken eggs took 5 wooden ones!

I wonder if a light with an ifra-red motion sensor would help to scare off any nocturnal critters, you can get solar powered ones incase you dont have power by your coop. Also, you could try putting a door on the chickens' entrance to the coop that you can lock at night. Or you could put...

Yes, there is a line of nesting boxes on the lower floor. 12"x12"x each. They are about 16 weeks old and not laying yet.
