Bullying? Bad roo? Peck order fighting?

Thanks for your response. Yes, the pecking order was established long ago, but I was wondering if removing the broody cochin might have led to a need for establishing a new pecking order? I wonder if when she returns if things could settle down. Yes, the white EE is laying well. She seems as...

Bullying? Bad roo? Peck order fighting?

Thank you for your input. Yea, there is definitely something going between the rooster and her but I agree with you it isn't necessarily him. I closely checked over the other hens today and most do have some very small patches of feathers missing on their heads and the partridge rock has a...

Bullying? Bad roo? Peck order fighting?

They are almost a year old. We got them all last September as day old chicks. At first I was wondering if pulling the broody out caused some disruption to the pecking order but now I'm wondering if the main problem is that my rooster just has a thing against this particular hen and he has to go.

The broody is my cochin and the rooster has always been good with her. She is still sitting on eggs in a brooding pen. Its my EE that the rooster goes after. The EE has never been separated out before. She is separated now due to her injuries. She is in sight of the flock.

Introducing chicks and reintroducing broody hen

Thank you for sharing your experience. May I ask if your broody hens nested in the coop with the rest of the flock? And were they high or low ranking hens? I have a feeling you're right about there being no right way.

Bullying? Bad roo? Peck order fighting?

Hi, I have a flock of 7 hens and 1 rooster who have always got along well. They have a large coop (we built it for 18 chickens), 3 nests, and a large fenced in yard. I normally put out one 3 gallon waterer and two feed bowls. I recently separated out one of my hens (white cochin, one of the...

Introducing chicks and reintroducing broody hen

I have a Cochin who is on day 14 of sitting on eggs. She is my first broody hen. I don't know how the hatch will go and her mothering will go, but I'm trying to wrap my head around the best way reintroduce her to my mixed flock of 6 hens and 1 rooster assuming all goes well. Right now, I have...
