Ugh! I've been so stupid. I have finally gotten to the point that my girls get to go out several times a day to roam the yard. One of mine is a pretty severe cross beak so she doesn't really get much with the free ranging, but likes to hang out with the others. I bring her mash out into the...
I have a crossbeak that has a difficult time with getting the extras that her flock mates get. Free ranging she scratches and carries on, but never actually gets anything. She is top dog so it is an inability and not that they won't let her. If all she ever eats is her half grower/half layer...
I hope someone can hop in and help. You might want to start your own thread and see if it doesn't get some more replies.
Anyone that pops in and wants to know, I kept Zebe alive for 4 wks before swelling took over her throat and I had to put her down. I did an autopsy and determined that is...
Based entirely off of the way the he is standing and that it is his typical position, I'm going with roo. I bet that comb and wattle will develop over the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for the well wishes with Zebe. My girls aren't even to laying age yet (hopefully getting close), and the potential roo is the youngest by about 2 weeks, so no hanky panky going on.
My poor Zebe has been sick for almost 4 weeks now. She has been on antibiotics now for the swollen eyes for about 2 weeks (first Oxytetracycline and now Tylan 50). Now there is some discoloration around the swollen part that makes me think of a yeast infection. There is a patch between the...
They are still at my FIL's house. I know he has them on a layer feed, but I don't know which one. He also feeds a big salad for a treat (6 hens) and they free range for a good part of the afternoon.
When I get my hands on her and her almost as big sister, what's the way to put them on a diet? They will go into seclusion for a while, do I just restrict their intake then?
Here's a thread from a month ago with her pictures. Ignore the missing tail feathers as she is severely feather pecked by the queen of the flock (main reason I want to get her from him).

I don't have my hands on her yet. I'd bet she is easily a 4. She was not very cooperative with the whole weighing thing, so maybe his scale is off. She is heavy to lift though.
Do you have a general idea about how heavy an orpington would be by the 20ish week mark since you said that this chart doesn't work for them? I'm about to adopt a chicken that my FIL swears is half turkey since she is weighing in around 8lbs. I'm pretty sure that is is an orpington.
Nothing to be sorry about. I had already written them both off as boys.
I can actually keep the little black one around a while longer. The EE has got to go. He's to the point he is bullying my Australorp to the point she is running in terror from him.
