I just had (what I am still HOPING is) one of my hens mount another hen last night. I am SO CONFUSED!! Do hens really do this?? I have watched them all since I got them at 4 weeks old... they all look and act the same for the most part... but this ONE walks more upright, is slightly bigger...
I have read that you shouldn't switch to layer feed until they are laying... but I am just as confused as you are! My girls are a few days shy of 20 weeks and I am chomping at the bit for the appearance of the first egg!! Good luck to you

I have sand out in the pen area, but still have pine shavings inside the coop. I am worried it will be TOO COLD in our extreme Alaska winters. Has anyone had issues with temperature inside the coop with sand VS shavings in the winter??
