Feel pretty sure that only the coon is getting the poison as everything is on my back deck 15 feet off the ground. ...and the entire contents of the feed bucket are getting eaten in 1 night.
It WAS a raccoon! I put my one remaining chicken into a dog carrier and then into the large dog cage just for extra precaution and later I looked out the window and seen a raccoon stealthily
approaching the cage. I scared it off and then mixed up some poison with chicken feed and set it out. in...
I found only 2 of 6 hens alive.....I moved them into a large dog pen... you know the all metal box style pen for large dogs inside the house?
well today I find one more dead!!!! pulled halfway through the 2inch by 3 inch fencing! its breasts and innards were all eaten and the leg that was...
Gtourtel ....
I keep 3 hens and have a converted shed for a coop... I have a light on at all times in the shed and I get 2 eggs most of the time and 3 eggs at least twice a week.

I am using a shed myself. in my case I use the deep litter method in the shed but have a plastic fence I move around the yard so they...
Somewhere in this thread that question was raised and it was estimated that you would need a colony of half a million to feed 1 cup per day without depletion of the colony. (Factoring in optimization of the breeding conditions and food/water)
Wow thats a bundle of critters! What area are you buying in?
I am in NWA and in some cities they will not let you have chickens or have a limit that is plain stupid.
I am just guessing but the eggs have started from 1 hen at least.... I believe that the RIR is the laying hen as the eggs are brown and about normal in size.
The answer is yes. The worms turn into pupae and from that stage they turn into beetles. The beetles lay eggs and then you have worms again. Now keep in mind that not all of them will mature at the same rate so you will have some in all 3 stages after the first batch.
Sweet! None have laid eggs yet at about 25 weeks. And after the orher RIR passed without any apparent reason I was wondering if I needed to eat this one.
