Thank you all for your replies. I am going to get a couple of more thermometers to check the temp and adjust as needed and then try a test hatch. This won't be my first incubator hatch as I've hatched chickens and quail before, but not in over 5 years. So it is a bit like starting over...
I received my new incubator in by UPS today. It is a Brinsea 20 ECO. I assumed the temperature was preset for chicken eggs. However the mercury glass thermometer is reading 104 degrees. It's been plugged in for an hour now and the light is flashing that it is at temperature range. Is my...
starting into day 23 and nothing else has hatched. All peeping in the shells has stopped yesterday morning. How much longer do I let the eggs in the bator?
I can hear others cheeping in their eggs but only see one other egg so far that is pipped. I hope more hatch. I wouldn't know what a poor single peep would do by itself.
Today is day 21. I'm home from work just now and one chick has hatched and is still partially wet. Do I leave him in the incubator until another one hatches or do I move him to the brooder by himself? Thanks!
It's day 21. Just got home from work and one new RIR chick is in the incubator to greet me. He is still partially wet. Should I leave him in the incubator until another one hatches and dries or move him to the brooder by himself? I sure hope more than one out of 12 hatches.
What incubator are you using? And are the eggs local?
I have a genesis 1588 and the eggs are from a friend's flock. They were fresh from the nests into the incubator.
I set a dozen RIR mixed breed eggs on friday the 20th. I am calling it a test hatch since I haven't incubated eggs or used this incubator in more than 5 years. My 3 year old son can barely contain himself. He is so anxious for these eggs to just hatch already!
