I'm sorry you lost your bird as well. It's frustrating.
I used to have quite a few chickens but I have taken a break for 5 years - just starting a flock again.
2 died within the first 3 days of delivery : a barred rock arrived with wry neck & my other buff polish died suddenly at 3 or 4 days...
She passed away. I moved her into a pet carrier on my covered back deck last night. - fresh wood chips, small bowl of water with quik chick in it and put a raw egg yolk in there. She didn't touch any of it.. She was still breathing at midnight but was gone at 6am.
Flock of all 10 week old chickens (polish, barred rock, black star, sussex, bieldefelder, cochins, EE): 14 birds total.

I want to build an external nestbox with a lid access on one of those windows - add a little platform and ramp to access it. - and put an internal nestbox on the floor under the platform. Roosts on the opposite side.

That's a smart idea. I had planned on putting stepping stones - like a walkway. When I sit on my back deck, I want to be able to watch them. I think the coop would block most of my view if I move it upfront. Very smart idea though, so I'm considering it.
