What did you do in the garden today?

And Japanese beetles are out in force. I'll need to take the bucket out tomorrow to start capturing them.
We'll probably see them in 2-3 weeks. That would be two weeks early, but everything is early this year.
So apparently my sugar snap peas are a bush variety. They’re barely 2 feet tall but they’re blooming already.
I have Green Beauty (seeds from a friend) that are about 2 feet tall and blooming. The flowers are different colors! Pink, darker pink, bluish, and a deep blue.

Me too, if he hadn't kept going backwards I would have been hurt much worse. I did lose the car keys in the lake when it happened, came out of my shallow lady trouser front pocket (we need real pockets), but the next day I made a telescoping magnet pole with one of those floor magnets, telescoping painters pole and hose clamps. DH was able to pull the keys up within 15 minutes.

Luckily someone gave me a ride in their golf cart to my property (I was soaked to the bone and it was a long ride😂) where I had my truck hitched to the boat trailer, with the keys in the camper, so I was able to pull the boat out of the water no problem. I knew my back was wrecked when it hurt me to turn and look at the trailer as I was backing down the launch ramp... At least I had another set of dry clothes, and another vehicle. 🤣

The pain appears to be mostly muscular so that's good. If I don't continue to improve I'll make a doctor's appointment to get an X-ray.
I gave up on Lady pants years ago. Between the pockets and the durability mens are superior.

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

For a few years this guy from the county would show up looking for Johnsongrass back here on this dead end road. He'd say we have to address it or they'll come spray Roundup on it. There was the 8 acres across the gravel street, the owner did farm a few years but most years it sat there ignored & of course Johnsongrass would grow. The seeds blew everywhere so we'd end up with spots of Johnsongrass here. Most would grow along the property line of a lot ignored next door, full of trees, vines & along the line wild raspberry & of course Johnsongrass. I've cut the grass up to the trees ever since moving here, I guess it's about an extra acre worth of cutting. I do it because no one else will, it helps keep the encroaching weed growth down thus keeping mosquitoes down. I do not need my flock getting attacked by mosquitos. Anyway...the guy says he's gonna come spray any Johnsongrass with Roundup next week if the weeds are still there. I get out there & pull what I can't reach with the mower. I do not want that crap sprayed & the breeze carry spray over to my flock or plants. They did spray that 8 acres. Heard when they spray that much, someone gets a hefty bill for it in the mail. I do not know why that dude showed up here like that for about 5 years in a row, but we only see that county truck once in awhile now, just drives through. That 8 acres...well, a new neighbor bought the parcel next to it, which also extends to next door to me, the wooded ignored mess. He has not cleared out the mess next to me yet. It'll be sad for wildlife when he does. He has talked to the owner of that 8 acre parcel & he took action...yup, sprayed Roundup. 😔 He planted a cover crop of Barley but it is still full of Johnsongrass so he will be using Roundup again no doubt. Can't do anything about people using that stuff, they're gonna do whatever they want, whatever is easiest.
My husband asked me to buy some Roundup for weeds. I will find a better way to get rid of them than using a chemical that causes some severe illness. I'm thinking that maybe if I can get some really strong vinegar and drown them in it, win win for me.

We had a cucumber marriage and they didn’t invite me!!

I tell my dh to pick off most leaves of suckers b4 putting in water and the stupid thing grows anyway! Think it has a bloom on it!
I know I’ve seen baby watermelons but I see none now.
Will they just surprise you at end of season- they blend in well

We recently did a sweep of options bc older teen needed and requested work pants. For her we found the Wrangler Riggs line to be the best fit. She loves all the pockets and pocket placement too. We tried and returned many others.
