Anyone heard about Michigan's new agriculture laws?
What does it all mean?
I though localities already had the right to regulate livestock.... which is why some allow chickens, and some don't, and some give limits (here for example, 3 hens, no roos)...
I know a few people who are fixing their roof after that storm- but not me. Did see some hail, but nothing damaging.
Supposed to get cold again tonight :(
As a soon-to-be chicken newb, I still have a few questions.
When I get my chicks, I plan on feeding them a chick starter. At what age do I switch them to layer Pellets (I will be hens only per village ordinance) and when do I give them oyster, eggshells or other calcium? how much? Do I simply...

If I am aiming for 3 hens, do I need to order extras just in case?
This simplifies things! I still want to...

The plan is to make the run tall enough for me to walk in comfortably, with a slanted roof of corrugated metal (or plastic) to bear the wight of snow and encourage runoff. The tarps will be to cut the wind, and will be applied to the walls of the run. The run itself will be very secure, and...
does anyone here have only a couple chickens? Planing out my coop, and I can only have 3.
Is it feasible to leave the pop-hole open year round, as long as the run is protected from wind during the cold winter months?
Or would some kind of automated device work for that? My work sometimes keeps...
My town only allows 3 hens, and it is a much smaller town than Holland. Next town over has the same regulations. I need to look into changing that! I want more than 3 chickens!
