I am raising my first chickens also. We have 6 Asian blues. They also like to lay on their side at times. Not as much anymore but when they were smaller they did. You will be amazed at how quickly they grow!!! Best of luck!!
And the bigger they grow the more they eat! LOL! I feel like they never stop eating. Love the coop and run idea you have. We actually found a coop on Craigslist for cheap and it was in good condition. Cleaned it up and painted it. We plan to build on to it and make it bigger. We live on about 14...
I'm in Alabama, little different climate, but we are having lows in the 50's at night and highs in the 80's during the day. We put ours out about 2 weeks ago at around 8 weeks old. They love being outside! We waited until they were all fully feathered.
Thanks for the replies!! I was really just wanting egg layers. Guess we'll see where this chicken adventure leads us. But I do think I'm going to have to get rid of some of the roosters. They are already picking fights with each other.
Well I originally thought they had been mislabeled at the store and I considered that they may have been black sexlinks so I guess it could be. It is the one that I am almost positive is a pullet. The others are constantly picking fights with each other it seems like she is always off to...
Call me crazy, but do most of these look like roosters?
The only one that looks like a pullet is the one on the left to me.
There is actually a 5th one that looks more like the ones I think are roos but in every picture I took he was drinking. LOL!
I will try to get one of him with the chicks tomorrow! I didn't even think to get one. LOL! Yes they are bred to herd, only problem is he will try to herd his humans too. It is not so easy to stay on your feet with 100+ lbs of dog pushing you.
We have a 1 year old Great Pyrenees and he does good with our chicks. We never leave them unattended together but he is very intrigued by them and stands guard. He's great for scaring of the coyotes at night also.
I am so new to this chicken thing I would not even have a clue. I am so intrigued by them though. LOL! And my girls are loving it. They don't even mind feeding and watering and cleaning the coop!
We got ours end of March so they are around 8-10 weeks? They seem to have grown fast. I think some of mine are roos too. Not sure if I will just sell them or maybe have them processed. I emailed the hatchery and all they would tell me was that due to trademark they couldn't tell me the cross but...
