Hey everyone so I just got a pair of snowy calls on the weekend...we had a pair of calls a couple years ago but they were super friendly and we only had then for the summer...this pair is not very friendly. Any advice on getting them more tame? We have a pond that is supposed to be their new...
I realize this is from a few years ago but @Kiri did you end up moving ottawa? I'm from lanark and chickens are defiantly fine there. Funny to find this post I was looking for a friend in the city if he was allow to have chickens! Thanks everyone
Love some of these ideas! How big of a space should you have for 10 chicks? And how warn are they supposed to be for the first while? Its still pretty chilly here (more snow today yay) So I'm trying to decide if I should keep them inside for a bit first. Thoughts appreciated!
What kind are you getting? I'm still deciding if it'll be too cold here to build the brooder in the pen outside of if I should make something to put in the basement...so many decisions lol
Yeah living where we do they are a co start threat! Used to raise rabbits so we had every manner of animal in after them as well. I am getting 10 barred rocks next Wednesday, 2 Brahma and a giant jersey the end of May. The Barred rocks look like adorable babies so I'm excited!
Wow Sarah yes...
No no I wasn't saying you did sorry that's just what I have read is that they can be mean to more docile breeds but then slot of people said they had no issue...either way I think being 2 months older they are gonna need to be kept away from the others lol
@Suzanne Dunn
That's what I have read is they can be bullies...they will be 2 months old before I get my other three so I'm thinking I'm gonna have to keep them separate till the three get big enough to fight back a bit lol
Yeah that's what my dad friend said was they waste slot less which I can see. Awesome I'll get some plywood then and close off a smaller space for them! Maybe make a couple littler perches on my afternoon off tomorrow lol.
Hahaha yes as I said above this used to be a pigeon coop! I have...
Yeah it is a fair sized shed, thats what I was wondering is if I should keep them in a smaller area to start. I know they need to get away from the heat though too in case. The barn isn't super drafty though most of the holes are closed till they get old enough to go outside! And yes I figure...
Hey! I'm new to owning chickens, my first 10 come next week however not new to various farm animals. I have converted over an old shed that used to house pigeons (it's been cleaned throughly) and plan to keep the chicks in the bottom part with shavings and a heat lamp till they are older. So...
