Question of the Day - Monday, April 28th, 2025

Sunday for me, since I still have events to get up for on Saturday morning. Sunday is the only day I really don't have to change out of my jammies until lunch, if I don't want to.

Hi!!! I am really sorry about your chicks! :hitI once lost about 25 because they decided to sleep AWAY from the heat and IN the spilled water from a broken water dispenser. It shows that they really aren't very smart. We've had more rain than usual, but NOTHING near what everyone else...

    filthy hatching eggs from eBay

We run misters on hot days, when we do that we get MUDDY eggs. If it's big chunks of mud, I take a butter knife and gently scrape the shell. It's gets the worst of the mud off. I wouldn't wash them though. Maybe a warm papertowel to wipe them carefully, but I don't like to submerge them...

Congrats everyone on the new babies and all the "about to be new" babies. I am so sorry for the losses. It's so hard to see the little ones struggle, but @WVduckchick you gave the last one it's best shot possible!! I am glad that I stopped hatching several months ago because I can no longer...

Sadly it's spreading. Newest case of Newcastle disease is in Ventura County. Do not accept any birds from here, or if you are in contact with any birds from this area, please practice intense biosecurity when going back to your property.

I think that was very unusual with Silkies, back then I knew someone else that got theirs from the same place, and they ended up with MOSTLY female. We joked that she got all my girls and I got all her boys.

Your best bet is looking in the Buy/Sell/Trade posts on BYC https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/#buy-sell-trade.67 The first silkies I got, I got from a hatchery. They sent me 22 chicks, 18 or so end up being boys. At that rate, I figured I rather just hatch my own. I got hatching...

I have Brinsea Octagons, and I used some wire mesh and made arches, that I drop over half the eggs. It fits snuggly under the top without touching the fans. So, half are under the arch, and the other half are outside the wire.
