My chicks just went outside and had been in their coop for less than 2 days before the neigborhood hawk showed up. Could not find a way in so it left. I knew it would happen but didn't think it would be that fast. It was sitting on top of the coop before I could take a pic.
I will second Ideal poultry. Since they are close to me I just drive an hour to pick up at the feed store in the town they are in. Healthy chicks so far. About 3 weeks in.
I have to give a shout out to ideal poultry in cameron texas. I live fairly close so went to pick them up. All the clicks are healthy and look to be doing well.
Finally after some years without chickens we got our start at another flock. Got ameracuana easter eggers, black austrailops, buff orpington and red star (sex linked). Now I have to get a move on finishing the coop.
This is taken from our family blog about the end of the chickies. They originally had a processor date of Apr. 1 but with the we weather followed by a severe drop in temps we processed about 5 days sooner. Good thing we did because they were wet from all the rain ans would have been chicken...

1) The dog got 1 of the chickies. She busted through the vinyl fence and licked one and bit several times. I decided to cull the bird and disposed of her. I didn't want to risk getting anything from the dog bite as it would have already circulated through her system.

Well here is the update. We got a total of 41 6 week old broilers.
Built a coop in 1 day. Nothing fancy, really just chicken wire around a frame with a blue tarp attached over that. Made the rounds of the supply and feed stores.
