How long does it take for ducks to start laying eggs?
Our leghorns are one by one beginning to pop them out but we have had two huge ones... bigger than anything I've seen a chicken lay. I suspect that the ducks are getting in their and plopping them in the chook nesting boxes. I've seen them...
Thanks everyone, it seems that they are at least mostly, if not pure muscovy adolescents...
They do have that squat and robust muscovy frame.
The are ugly but well loved...
Here they are by name...
And here is a pic my brother made while being a goof...
Thanks for the info... and please offer more suggestions.
kstaven I think they are crosses for sure... the feet are two-tone and they look unusual (though very charming with that bright duck intelligence). One has a bit of red around his/ her bill, maybe a muscovie influence?
KrisRose thanks...

You have planted seditious ideas in my mind... I just cleaned out the duck and chook pen and pondered your ideas over a coffee while watching my little flock.
I'll start with the hatching!

Thanks Mitzi, I like your style. Very cool how you sell those eggs in the brown paper bags with your stamp on them. And adding a few extra to the dozen, I wonder if that says something about you.
cheers

Accent? Aussies don't have accents, only people from other countries do! I too would love to hear your voices/ accents! I'm sure they would be as diverse as the chooks are on this board.
The ducks really are cute! I have been away for three days and geez they have grown so much...

I love that idea of not counting them... like it matters anyway! I mean, I would love to have another 20. I only have 7 - 1 hen (Princess Layer ) and 4 pullets and 2 chicks who are fast becoming pullets, plus three young ducks.
My partner isn't as excited as I am (yet) about...
Nice birds and plenty of them! How many do you have? I like the one in the sixth photo, the grey fluffy one... what type is that?
Edit: This is my flock

What do you do with all the eggs?

Hi Helen, I live near Sutherland. Where are you? My mate who's a national park ranger told me there are about 10 foxes every 2 sq/km in the Sydney metropolitan area; hard to believe but enough for me to seal the coop against an army of red whiskery creatures.
I was amazed at how great...

Yeah, that pic was just the meet and greet that took place in the bathroom. At the moment they are all snuggled together in thickly bedded (with lucerne hay and pine shavings) box with a hotwater bottle in the outdoor coop. Their second night away from the light.
