    The Coop 1

The Richter Coop Our basic premise for this coop was to recycle as much scrap lumber/materials as we could. We did this because 1) we believe in reuse of materials, 2) it's cheaper, and 3) we had the materials handy. The coop was built from an abandoned tree-house or deer blind (never quite...

Recent photos of our GL Wyandottes

Quote: I think the GL Wyandotte roosters are in a good solid neutral category. They don't seem to be the most social with humans (though they don't shy away), but they aren't mean either. Amongst themselves, I don't notice any behavior beyond what you'd expect in the normal establishing of...

•• ADD YOUR COOP TO BYC •• ( formerly the Coop Page Contest )

Not clear as to how to submit a coop page for consideration. Do we post here, or is there some other means of submission? Here's my page: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=886-The_Coop Thanks! Jim

Recent photos of our GL Wyandottes

Last time I posted any photos of our Golden-Laced Wyandottes was back in May when they were barely 2 months old. Here's a photo of a few of a flock being held by my other bird brains To see some other photos of the Wyandottes, you can check out this personal page I created...

Submit Coop Design Pictures For The BYC.com Site!!

Thanks for the comment. Here's the updated page with some photos I took today. I think it's a good practical set up. By the way. Like the personal pages! Always think that's a nice addition to a forum. https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=886-The_Coop Jim

Submit Coop Design Pictures For The BYC.com Site!!

Here's mine on my newly created coop page. Going to get some more recent photos of the coop and the chickens (for the Wyandotte page) up later today after I snap them. The guiding principle was to reuse materials that we had laying around...

GL Wyandottes went out to the coop yesterday

That's very true about leg color. The Wyandotte leg color is a very "school bus" type yellow. Thanks about the coop. I'm not a carpenter by any stretch of the imagination. I pride myself that there is a definite absence of right angles in that coop's construction! Besides, it was made of...

GL Wyandottes went out to the coop yesterday

The chicks came from Mt Healthy Hatcheries in Cincinnati--excellent mail order hatchery. 15 is the minimum order (rather than the customary 25). We ordered 15 and they stuck in 2 more for whatever reason (warmth?). All were healthy on arrival and all have survived so far. Out of the 17, 10...

What are everyone's chickens names and why?

I don't mean any disrespect by this, but I don't name anything I'm going to eat. To us, they're utility animals. It may have a very generic name like "Brownie," but I don't my kids or me to get too attached to them--especially come butchering time. Jim

GL Wyandottes went out to the coop yesterday

After about 5 and 1/2 weeks, our small flock (17) of Golden Laced Wyandottes went out to the coop to live yesterday. They're very happy to be in bigger environs, including the large chicken run. They've had a ball scratching up worms and running around the run. Built the coop last year from...

Pics of 2 week old golden-laced wyandottes

It should be. It was a straight run of 17 chicks. Best I could count based on early wing development, we've got 7 or 8 females and the rest males. This will be right since I wanted to get down to about 7 hens and 1 rooster. Kids are getting used to them. They're rather taken back by how...
