Duck coop/run- what would you do??

Same here! I have a couple that are extremely loud! We live in the country and all the surrounding neighbors can hear them. They even check in to see if everything is okay when they haven’t heard them, lol!

I am still loving everything about the coop. It works well and is easy to clean and I love being able to access the eggs from the exterior when I want and that they stay warm and don’t freeze in Buffalo NY winter. The only thing I would change is to make the run even bigger. We have since added...

I’m so sorry that I am just now seeing your comment! When we first got the chicks we made the dogs sit by the brooder every day with us and brought the chicks out for them to see and eventually would set them them on their back and on their nose and tell them no…. Until they learned that they...

    Drake rejecting one hen

I wondered about separating the drake for a while, but was afraid that would make it worse.

    Drake rejecting one hen

Thanks! I have been watching them and she seems pretty good at getting away, but he does bite at her when he chases her away. There’s plenty of room for her to get away, but so far she is still determined to join in with the rest of the girls. I don’t pen then up until right before it gets dark...

    Drake rejecting one hen

That’s what I was thinking, but its been a week now. I have been making sure she gets food and water. They free range during the day on our pond, but I have to distract him in order to get her back in the pen in the evening so he doesn’t chase her back out before I can get it closed up.

    Drake rejecting one hen

I have flock of one drake (Rouen) and 6 females ( Rouen, Pekin, Khaki mix). My hens hatched 2 ducklings a male and female over a year ago. We got rid of the 2nd drake when he started really attacking some of the females when the two drakes were establishing territory. Now the original drake is...

I need help with the flock rejecting/chasing ducklings away!

Oh, wow! I would never have dreamed they’d go after their own flock ducklings! They’re getting pretty big now, and I let the others out of the pen during the day to go to our pond, but when they’re all in the pen, the ducklings have to keep in Hiding, so to speak, or get chased away.

    Chick loss

Pine is not toxic to them! Make sure you have a thermometer to tell what the temp is in there. It could be too warm. They need to be able to move away from the heat if it’s too much and you should lower the heat every week by 5 degrees.

Review by 'jlholm' in article 'Keeping a Rooster (A Personal Journey)'

Your writing is very good, but I wholeheartedl disagree with a lot of the information given, and should be stressed that this is your opinion only. Yes, having a rooster is a crap shoot of what type of personality you may get and some may work out and some may not, but your reasoning behind the...

(Well-meaning) human predators in the chicken run, Oh No!

You definitely need to explain to them why it’s not okay for anyone to come into the run or coop for a number of reasons, in a way they understand, nicely, but firmly. The sooner the better, before they come back without you knowing and something bad happens. They are just being good hearted...
