    Extremely Bloody Shelless Egg

I found this egg on the ground. I have never seen one with so much blood. Recently I picked up a different brand of layer pellets because the feed store did not have the brand I use in stock. Would a sudden change in food cause this? No one is looking or acting sick. The hens range from 1 year...

    Winter thread:Chickens

UPDATE: I am removing the hanging suet feeder for my chickens. I noticed one of my Cochins has a beak injury and several others have what appears to be bruising on their beaks in the same location. 😓 It's my best guess as to why these injuries are occuring

    Breed suggestions for docile roosters?

I have had a few different breeds of roos. The worst roo I had was an Easter Egger. He was fine toward people but horrible to the hens. My daughter has a buff orpington roo and he is a sweetheart. Buff orpington would fit your need of a clean footed breed with a nice disposition. They are a...

    Dust baths and snowy weather

I use a plastic mixing pan (used in masonry). I tried using an old tire but it wasn't big enough for them to dust bathe. A portion of the run is covered. During the winter I use thick plastic to keep the snow and wind out. I used 1/3 dirt, 1/3 all purpose construction sand, 1/3 food grade...

@ThickenTheChicken It's been a while since your last update. Is your hen still limping? If not, how long did it take & what did you do?

My neighbor is complaining about my rooster :/

A sound maker is a device that makes noise such as rain, babbling brook, nighttime crickets, white noise, etc. Here is one on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Relaxing-Soothing-Charging-Auto-Off/dp/B00A2JBMRE/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Sound+Makers&qid=1632336511&sr=8-3 There are...

My neighbor is complaining about my rooster :/

I am the OP of this thread. What worked for me was to give my neighbor a sound maker and eggs. I was empathetic to his concern and it made things better. Maybe wrap it up in a gift bag 🙂 If you have more than 1 rooster, that will cause the roosters to crow more frequently throughout the day. If...
