I processed chickens, 16 days ago, and put them immediately in the fridge to rest. And then I forgot they were there!
Are they still safe to eat? Feeling sad that I wasted their little lives.
I had 3 birds processed 16 days ago. I put them straight in the fridge to rest and then FORGOT about them. 😢
Has it been too long to roast or freeze them? I’m so sad and feel like I’ve wasted their little lives…
Hi!
I’ve had chickens for three years. My current flock is half 2-3yo and half new layers (6-12 mo). When they free range in the back yard they seem to lay fine, but every time I restrict them to the very shady run behind our fence, they stop laying. Out of 9 chickens I’m only getting 2-3 eggs a...
I feed her the same as the rest of the flock. They get Bar Ale organic pellet feed. I offer oyster shells and they get fresh water daily. They also have a large free range enclosure, so I don’t know what else she may have foraged.
This is how the eggs look from my cream legbar. She was laying well, but it dropped off and all of her eggs have looked like this.
What is this and how do I treat?
Well, this “cockrel” laid its first egg three days ago! I couldn’t figure out who laid, until I found her on the nest this AM.
Just 4 months old... so many she has some sort of hormonal imbalance to have matured so quickly?
A chicken laid a fairy egg two days in a row and now laid more of a pullet sized egg. It the same color as my wellsummer’s, but she has also laid eggs on the same days..
The only birds I have that are ready to lay are my Salmon Faverolles - but I was expecting completely different egg colors...
Thanks all.
We've had quite a few roosters now, but they all were quite a bit more developed than this guy by this point. I've been suspicious of him for awhile, but kept expecting more change. Good to know!
Wondering what your thoughts are for the bird on the left?
they are 3 months old now. The comb and waddles are much more developed and redder than the one on the right, but I just think it should be more obviously a roo by now (maybe it’s obs to you??)
they are F2 Olive Eggers (maran roo...
We’ve set up a camera in there. Their run is fenced but not covered. Clearly, we’re going to need to make some changes to the fencing.
Any tips for keeping coyotes out?
We are missing 5 chickens... three 12 week chicks and two hens (one the mother and then another one). The attack happened around 1pm in broad daylight. We live in an urban area but have lots of predators: hawks, bobcats, coyotes, raccoons and mountain lions.
I found a couple tufts of feathers...
Hi all!
I have a broody hen whose been on her nest a couple weeks already (on wooden eggs). My hatching eggs arrived and are in the bator to see which ones start to develop.
She’s currently on one of our nest boxes and I’d like to move her to the small coop where she and the chicks will be...
I have some questions for those who have had broody hens raise their chicks... Bare with me, this might be on the long side
Background:
I just hatched a clutch of eggs, but all are male (they are 2 days old today). We will raise them for meat, but still want some more hens.
I'm going to set...
A clear white dot on the head always means male for CLs, right?
(I know a smaller dot can happen in pullets, but what I’m seeing is defined). I think I just hatched 5/5 Roos...
