@alhln Thank you! The rest of the flock are fine! They run towards me like in a really funny manner when they see me!
We raised 2 from chicks and thought one was a hen but they both turned out to be cockerels! However they get on fine, and the one we thought was a lady likes to hump the floor...
Shock collars are banned in our country but we’ve managed to get our Jack Russell to ignore our chickens.
Our chicken run is surrounded by an electric fence to deter foxes. When we first got our dog he was super curious about the chickens and got shocked himself instead. We heard a great yelp...
She did pant a week ago but hasn’t panted since. I don’t think she is egg bound as we inserted a finger in her vent and didn’t feel anything. There was an odd lump in the bottom left but I’m not too sure what it was. It didn’t feel blocked though.
I felt her crop just now before dark and it’s about the size of a ping pong ball, perhaps a bit smaller and it’s rather hard? Still squishable but a lot harder than what it was a few days ago. Could this be a crop issue instead?
Raising chickens is so stressful!
Thanks! She’s looking a lot better than in the first few pictures now, but I’ll try giving her some garlic and onion.
Will the lime feather encourage her to eat as she’s still eating very little? And will lemons work instead of lime?
Ooh thanks for letting me know about negative impact between the vitamins and Amprolium. I’ll avoid the vitamins when I start medicating her.
She is still drinking water but less so than yesterday. We only gave her fresh water today though as we didn’t want to give her too many vitamins and...
Her symptoms haven’t changed. She’s hunched up in a corner looking sorry for herself :(
She did do a big poo today which looked normal?
I don’t see any blood but she’s still refusing to eat. I made her some scrambled egg but she ignored it. She might’ve pecked it a bit when I left it alone...
So I’ve kept her by herself for a few hours and she just did her first poo.
it’s really watery and runny and I don’t think she’s eating anything.
should I mash up some pellets and mix with water to feed her?
she pooped in her bowl! :(
Thanks for the reply!
I checked her crop just now and it feels soft and squishy, not hard, but I’ll check again in the morning. I’m not too sure what a normal crop should feel like though. I’ll pick up one of the other hens and check hers in a bit :)
I’m currently giving her some poultry...
She can walk now but is still looking pretty lethargic compared to our other hens. Almost like she’s dozing off whilst standing up.
She’s also still gasping every now and then and my partner went to pick her up today and a lot of fluid came out of her beak.
what could this be? Could it be...
We checked after a few hours and her condition seems to have improved and she has also pooped!
We’ve put her back in the main run with her friends and while she seems a bit sleepy, at least she can walk a bit better now. Lets hope she feels better soon :(
It’s been an hour since her warm bath and she hasn’t pooped anything :( I’ll let you know if anything changes.
We tried to insert a finger but we didn’t feel anything apart from a lump in the bottom left of her vent. Maybe we didn’t stick the finger too far but we didn’t want to hurt her...
