    Update on Ostracized Hen

The bully was in the run in a small fenced area where the others could see her for 4 days and nights. Yes, we have done 2 rounds of pinless peepers for 2 weeks each round. They helped slightly with feather plucking, but they would still chase her and guard her from food and water. I have...

    Update on Ostracized Hen

Morning BYC, yet another update on our ostracized hen. We are continuing some behavior modification with our hens in hopes of flock harmony once again. We isolated the hen who was the leader of bullying. I just let her out this morning and within minutes I am 99% positive she was back attacking...

    Chicken Ostracized Update

We have tried pinless peepers. Two rounds at 2 weeks each. They help with feather plucking, but they are still 'mean' to her with them on. Our entire set-up is 600 square feet of coop, run and outdoor pen. It's a pretty nice set-up that is predator-proof.

    Chicken Ostracized Update

Hi Everyone, I posted several weeks ago and its been about 2 months since my flock of 6 Cinnamon Queens (all the same age) began to ostracize one chicken. We have tried several behavior modification techniques, with little success. To update, the 5 have not drawn blood on #6. They will allow her...

    Pinless Peepers

I am getting ready to try pinless peepers after several weeks of bullying. I have done research and am getting some conflicting information. One farmstead video said if you use them ALL chickens have to have them. Others seem to just put them on the problem hens. Can anyone who has successfully...

Still Ostracizing one of the hens

Hi, thanks for the reply. One hen has seemed to have stopped picking on her. The other 4 harass her.

Still Ostracizing one of the hens

Hi BYC, I have 6 hens all 1.5 years old. I posted a couple weeks ago about my #5 possibly trying to move-up in the pecking order and failing and now going through a tough time. I had some good advice saying it could take up to 3 weeks for everyone to settle down. It's been just over 2 weeks and...

Failed attempt at moving up in the Pecking Order...

Thank you! You're right, they're not attacking her. They're just chasing her around and giving her a hard time. She's not fighting back. So thankfully it's not ugly. Just so sad to have disharmony in the pen for over a week now. Praying it ends soon.

Failed attempt at moving up in the Pecking Order...

Looking for some sage advice...I have 6 hens. My number 5 in the pecking order attempted to make a move up in the order a little over a week ago. The 4 hens above her weren't having it. Since then she has been on the outs with them. Nothing hurtful, thank God!, but was wondering how long this...

    First time with mites...

Thank you! I know it is probably overkill to dip them, but since it is our first time and I feel awful for them I want to go in nuclear. I will spray them.

    First time with mites...

I posted a couple days ago with questions about one of my hens and since then have discovered it is mites. We are waiting for the Elector PSP to arrive tomorrow and will be cleaning the coop and hens alike. We are going to have an unseasonably warm day tomorrow here of 78-80 and breezy. The low...

Self-feather pecking and soft shell eggs

Yes, they have regular pellets as well. The pellets are 18% protein the scratch is also 18%. She eats both as well as a measured amount of mealworm/BSF daily and fresh veggies. She is drinking normal. The area that she was picking at doesn't appear to be getting larger. Will do. Thanks

Self-feather pecking and soft shell eggs

Nope, she hangs with her girls. Mine are all Cinnamon Queens who tend to not go broody, but that's not 100%. I do remove the eggs as quickly as I can.
