I have 10 total hens that are just starting to lay in the past four weeks. One of my Amer. was the first to start laying. We got 3 or 4 eggs from her in the first week. In that week we had one more hen start laying as well. I would now say I have at least 7 out of 10 laying except I have not...
Pretty, our first egg was a blue/green egg. It was so exciting! I believe all you do to blow it out is put a pin hole in both ends and gently blow the white & yolk out...
I have one amaricauna that has started laying at 20 wk. & one the same age who has not started a week and a half later. I have 10 chickens of various breeds, they are 21 to 22 weeks old and I believe I have four that are now laying... I also think most of them are from my slightly younger group..
My Americaunas just started laying this week @21 weeks. I would never have guessed them to be first... So many of my others have much larger combs & wattles. I have two & I'm not sure if they are both laying or just one but I have gotten 3 since Friday. One or two of my RIR's are laying jelly...
I'm pretty new at this too, ( my flock is 21-22 weeks old) and you will be surprised how quickly they will get redder and grow! I would say I also had girls that age that lacked combs & wattles. Some of mine seemed to drastically change within a day or two. I have just started getting some eggs...

I thought of the br female too but I have one a week older & they are different. I guess we'll just see how it goes, We're not opposed to culling if we must
Ya, I have a 2 week old female who is all black. When the woman at the store gave me these week old hens today (one she said was a bsl) I had a feeling she was a he...Already at a week there is barring on the wings, unlike the female. Crowing habits???
I just picked up some last minute chicks today...Laying hens. Except I'm pretty sure my black sex link pullet is in fact a cockeral. Anyone have any experience with these roos? I live in a tight nit neighborhood and I'm not sure how much a rooster will be appreciated... I would love to keep him...
