    Nest Boxes - Paint?

    I am building nest boxes for my 12 chicks and I am wondering whether I have to paint them. The boxes will be made of plywood and pine boards. Is paint an absolute necessity? Is it just recommended or is it just a nice esthetic thing to do? Thank you all.
