Thank you. You’re right I should have got a picture of the egg. I have checked on her a few times and she still seems ok. She’s the smallest hen I have and the egg was larger than she typically lays. I will keep an eye on her and check for any off behavior.
I had my first experience with a hen trying to pass a large egg. I saw her pass the egg but before I could get back in the run the other hens were already around it. The egg was mostly intact but there was no yolk and the very tip was broken. I don’t know if the hens got to it and ate it or...
I recently introduced my 10 week old pullets to my hens. I’ve read where there can be bullying and picking. Thankfully I haven’t had any injuries. But the pullets seem to be really scared of the hens. You can see in the picture when they go to roost the hens are on one side and the pullets...
I’m at a loss here. Violet my Lavender Orpington has done this neck bobbing thing twice now about a week apart. Her comb is nice and red, eyes are clear, not hearing any respiratory issues, poop looks good. When this happens she doesn’t go eat with the others, she puffs out her feathers and...
Thank you! I didn't even think about the ratio of hens to roosters so I appreciate this information. The buff is quite large but the lavender is smaller. The 2 lavenders stick close to each other so if I were having to choose to re-home, I would re-home the buff. He's such a gentle giant but...
Thank you all very much! Yes they are all the same age around 12 weeks. I'll try to get a better pic of the Lavender. So it appears I have 4 hens and 2 roosters. I hope the two roos get along. They do so far. They are all really happy together!
Thank you! I had ordered females so it seems Winnie is actually Pierre. . The only other one I’m questioning is one of the Lavenders. I’ve posted pics of my girls + 1
I’m a new chicken mama and I have 6 12-week old Buffs. I’m pretty sure all are pullets except this one. She was always bigger than the others but I can’t tell about the feathers. I also don’t see any spurs coming out on her. What do you think?
I’m new to raising chickens and got my Buff and Lavender Orpingtons three weeks ago. I’m confused about how long to keep them in the brooder since the outside temperatures are in the 90s. I have them in the garage with fans and a Brinsea heater. What is the rule of thumb for moving them...
