Thank you all! I changed out their shavings and will be keeping an eye on them. The previous owner owned a lot of fowl and also would cull them to eat them. I'm guessing she must've fed greens and table left overs. I feel a bit more at ease with knowing that this doesn't look like poop of a...
Is this color of green normal? This is in their shavings. I picked up 2 muscovies the other day and noticed their shavings were very green from their poop. I was told that they were fed game bird feed and since I've gotten them, I've only fed them all flock crumbles. I don't know if they were...
I just messaged another local farm, but I don't think they'll be interested in my 2 boys either :( I think I'll most likely still have them after the new year and auction sounds fine, but I don't know how I'd get them to you. I think we may be quite a distance apart.
I have 2 gorgeous boys that were hatched in mid-August that need homes. I am near the Twin Falls area in Southern Idaho but I'm willing to travel, especially if I know they'll go to good homes. I have asked local farms and placed ads, but have had no interest shown in them :( Please, if you...
Hello there! She's actually doing wonderful now! I was quick to give her electrolytes and crushed garlic in water with a dropper. About an hour later, she started to slowly perk up. By night, she was pooping more solid with just a little yellow and she wad a little more interested in food. By...
I went to the coop at around 2pm to find my girl Flossy, sitting on a perch in the coop. She looked lethargic, so I brought her inside the bathroom to inspect her. I was able to pick her up with no fuss and once inside, all she wanted to do was sleep. Her crop felt fine, no sour smell, she was...
Thanks! I alost bought some too! Just wasn't sure of I coupd use it on him. I think I'll buy some to keep on hand. I kept applying corn starch and kept him in a large dog crate for 2 days, and now he's fine. Just put him back in the coop this morning, just to find an egg bound hen. Ughhh....
I removed my roo's spur nail last night, leaving the quick. There was very minimal bleeding last night. It looked okay this morning, but when he went out to forage, the quick began to bleed. I've applied corn starch repeatedly, but at times, it resumes bleeding. I'be had him seperated all day...
She is doing fabulous! Thank you for asking. It took her about a week and a half to heal, and now the tip of the feathers where the wound was has a little white in it. But she is as feisty and sassy as ever and just started laying a few weeks ago :)
Thanks. So it sounds like you can start putting grit and oyster out at any age, as long as you provide them with:) appropriate food. They will eat what they need and avoid what they don't.
I think what Sebloc is trying to ask is: since their hens are nearing the laying age but are not laying yet, is it necessary to put oyster out for them now or should they wait till the first egg is laid. I think that is a valid question. Especially for a new chicken owner who is in the process...
I am new to owning chicken and I'm learning as I go. Today, one of my hens laid our first egg, and I am so stoked about it! In total, we have 7 hens. If the other hens don't start laying soon, do I still provide the laying hen with crushed egg shells or oyster? Will the others avoid eating...
